Taken! A Short Story (Audible Audio Edition) Donald Wells Christopher Eicher Year Zero Publishing Books
I loved reading "Taken!" because it wasn't the traditional serial killer story. I enjoyed the few twists and turns there were and felt like the author took such a short story and succeeded in attempting to create a plot worthy of a novel, something that is delightful and rare.STORY - I feel like the product description gives a good idea of the story, so I will refrain from giving a plot summary myself as it would be difficult to write without giving away spoilers.
WRITING STYLE - The writing style kind of jumps all over the place. It goes from present third-person to past third-person to present first-person and keeps switching back and forth. At first glance, it's a strange choice and a little hard to follow, but when you get to the end of the story it makes sense.
The plot was deep which usually fails in short stories, but it didn't in this one. I don't know how, but it's like the author took a serial killer novel and condensed it down to a short story...and it worked! There were a few plot points that I wanted to know a few more details about, but it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the story much at all.
The character development wasn't the best, but once again it all makes sense why the author wrote like he did in the end. I really liked the characters and still would have liked to get to know them better.
WARNINGS - Sexual Insinuations, Peril
All in all I really enjoyed this story. It was a different take on the classic serial killer formula. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of horror as long as you aren't expecting a scary story. It's horror, but it's not necessarily nightmare-inducing.

Taken! A Short Story (Audible Audio Edition) Donald Wells Christopher Eicher Year Zero Publishing Books Reviews
This is such a great short story and without my kindle I never would have found it. The book is about a man who is stalking a woman in a city where twenty-three women who look just like her have been murdered. I never saw the twist ending coming and I'm usually good at that. I'm so glad that this is a series, and I plan to read them all. I think I'm reading more now than i ever have thanks to ebooks.
With being the first in a series, this one set the bar fairly high. You are given all the information that is needed and the final twist was a shock. Looking forward to reading each in the series.
I've been a fan of Donald Wells since I first discovered Double or Nothing, and then went on to read The Reynolds Family Saga series. And now, the Taken series has me hooked from the beginning. Wells fluid, descriptive style and true gift for storytelling shine through in the first story of this psychological thriller. I don't want to give anything away or provide any spoilers, but the last few pages of this story will knock your socks off- you've never read a serial killer quite like this, and I'm so anxious to see how this plot develops over the series. Well-written and from a master storyteller, I give this my highest recommendation and five stars. Fantastic.
Donald Wells writes a punchy short story full of plot and twists worthy of a full length novel. I agree with the first reviewer who mentioned that the point of view seems to be all over the place, but it does make sense in the end. My only complaint would be that there is so much plot packed into such a short space that it makes one wonder why the author chose a short story length instead of novel length.
However, this books seems to be the introductory novel of a long series of shorts with the same characters and for that I'm grateful, because I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters after just finding out how interesting they are and I will be eagerly reading the rest of the series.
Here's how I rate
3 stars - good, the novel did it's job and entertained but will be quickly forgotten.
4 stars - very good, recommendable, stuck with me and left me wanting more of the story or author.
5 stars - Life changing - bound to be a classic to be read again and again.
So, four stars from this reader and a new fan for Donald Wells.
I found the Taken books free when looking for something to read. The first book really got me hooked and so far I have read up to number 12. They are quick reads and the more you read the more you become familiar with the story of Jessica and her husband and how they met, and why they do what they do. I really like the series and look forward to reading the ones I have downloaded so far.
